Replacing my car w/ my car....only bigger and better. We have the ...

Alright so I have a 1991 4runner. I really real like it. It has the 30l V6 with 266,000 miles. I want to be able to pull a pop-up trailer and maybe an open trailer with our two dual sport motorcycles. The high mileage, the fact that you can't find NEWER VEHICLE WITH MANUAL TRANNY!!! and the fact that I intend to take multiple trips from Seattle, WA to Syracuse, NY.

Plus....I am unable to call myself versed in engine mechanics and I would know my vehicle well, were I to have an option. I have a neighbor that is a really experienced and reliable professional mechanic and does mods as a hobby to all his friends.

I, after close to 3 years of waiting, have finally gotten my retirement orders from the VA. Sum all of that up to say retro-pay for close to three years and about an additional 30 percent ended up with a wad of cash and I was seriously thinking of taking my old (and totally awesome) 4runner and taking it to trade for a payment, probably, and a much nicer (but not what I really want) vehicle that is "newer" and "more reliable."

So....I spent about a week with my mechanic and the local auto-parts place. I hand picked each and every piece of the entire vehicle. Massive metallic carbon this and that the belts that had the better warantees and visible build qualities. Long story short, my neighbor is going to rebuild this with all brand new and upgraded parts. The biggest part of it all is that he's going to use the chilton's manual and walk me through the whole process. That won't make me qualified to do this on my own, but it will give me confidence on the road in that each and every part is new, but that its a part I helped install.

I think its going to be worth the $2900....
