The exterior of your house is a reflection of how you keep your home on the inside. With that said, the last thing you want to show the world is dirty, streaky, or otherwise forgotten and uncared for windows. This article has a few tips on how to keep your windows looking perfectly clean so you can continue presenting your neighborhood with the best view of your home.
Cleaning Tools
To begin, you want to make sure that you have the right window cleaning tools. Too often this job is ruined before it has a fair chance of success because people are using the wrong tools. Keep an inexpensive window washing detergent, a squeegee, and a lint free towel with you. You?ll want to keep the water and detergent in a bucket if you will need to go outside in order to wash the outside of your windows.
Cleaning Technique
Next, you?ll want to make sure you have the right technique. Dip your squeegee in the bucket with the water and detergent mix. Start on the left hand side of the window at the top and cross over the right hand side at the top. Then rotate your hand and move the squeegee down to the bottom left side of the window. You?ll then move it across to the right hand bottom side of the window. You will have made a Z pattern. After you make it to the bottom right side of the window use your lint free towel to wipe off the excess water.
Cleaning the Outside
The trickiest part is the outside of the window, particularly if your home has a second story. Utah windows in particular have to put up with dust and grime kicked up from the mountains and foothills. For those that have purchased new energy efficient windows with the rotating feature, this chore is as easy as doing the inside of the window. Simply unlock the windows, pull both tabs, and rotate the windows so that the outside is now on the inside and clean as usual. If however you still have the original windows that do not have the rotating feature, cleaning the outside is trickier. Make sure that you have someone with you at all times to ensure safety. Make sure that your ladder is sturdy and take it slow. Keep the bucket filled with less water than before to ensure that the weight is less. Use the same technique as the inside while making sure that you stay secure on your ladder. Never go higher than you feel comfortable with. Once you are done, drop your bucket onto your lawn and use both hands to climb down the ladder.
Voila
Now that you have the right supplies and the technique down you can ensure that you always have squeaky clean windows to let in that wonderful natural light into your home. Your neighbors will be impressed with the care you take for the appearance of your home--hopefully they?ll follow your good example.
