Nothing gets more western than? a rodeo, so gear up for the Poway Rodeo, which will entertain spectators this Friday and Saturday.
The shows start at? 7:30 p.m. Friday and at? 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Poway Valley Riders Association arena, 14336 Tierra Bonita Road.
Organizers promise a quality, thrill-packed rodeo with bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie down roping and barrel racing.
The event attracts some of the best cowboys in the business, many of whom will finish the Poway Rodeo, then move on to the next stop in the circuit.
Tickets range from $14 to $17 for adults, $6 to $8 for 12 and under, and various prices for special seating. Go online to purchase at tickets@PowayRodeo.com, or drop in at the Hamburger Factory, 14122 Midland Road; Albertsons, 14937 Pomerado Road; or Elston Hay & Grain, 14277 Garden Road.
A new section, added just for kids on Saturday only ? called the VIP Buckle Seating ? will be next to the bucking chutes in a fenced area? with its own food, restroom and bleachers. Tickets are $20.
Adults, too, can sign up for Silver Buckle Seating during evening performances and enjoy food from Kaminski?s Barbeque and Sports Lounge in a fenced area. Tickets are $50 with food on Friday; and $55 with food on Saturday.
Rodeo announcer Wayne Brooks, who commentates from horseback, will be back injecting his humor and camaraderie into his visit to the rodeo.
Brooks was awarded the 2010 Announcer of the Year recognition by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
Look for the winners of the ?So You Think You Sing?? contest, who will be singing the national anthem during opening ceremonies.
Second-place winner Marielena Teng, 16, from San Diego, will sing Friday night; third-place winner Dayenna Garcia, 13, of Temecula will sing at 1 p.m. Saturday; and first-place winner Jackie Foster, 15,? of Poway will sing Saturday night.
An addition to this year?s rodeo will be the Andalusian dancing horses.
Adult-only dances, free with rodeo admission, will follow the Friday night and Saturday night performances.
Poway Days will wrap up with the Poway Music Fest and the Tour de Poway on Oct. 1 and 2, respectively.
The Poway Music Fest with the Max Weinberg 7+ will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Poway Center for Performing Arts Center, 15498 Espola Road.
Tickets are $42 for adults and $10 for youth under 18 accompanied by an adult. For details, call 858-748-0505.
The 26th annual Tour De Poway starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2 in Old Poway Park.
This year?s ride will be in memory of avid bike enthusiast Nick Venuto, who died on May 31.
An estimated 2,000 participants will have the choice of the challenging 100-, 62- and 50-mile rides or opt for shorter rides, 16- and 18-mile rides, starting at Old Poway Park.
The various courses provide a fun and challenging ride for all levels of cycling with well-stocked aid stations, music, an expo, plus? a barbecue and beer garden at the finish. Tickets for the barbecue are $12 each.
The 26- and 18-mile courses provide both a fun and enjoyable experience for the weekend cyclist and include a stop at the Bernardo Winery.
After Sept. 24, a late fee of $15 per rider will be charged. Fees are $50 for the 100-, 62- and 50-mile bike rides, or $40 for the other rides. For details, call 858-679-1027.
