ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - Department of Biology - Field Botany

Index 210101, Position 101130

Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track appointment beginning August 2013.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Ph.D. in Botany or a closely related discipline and a demonstrated potential to teach advanced courses such as Field Botany and Plant Ecology. Ability to serve as curator of the herbarium and build upon the reference collection of local flora. Commitment to and potential for developing an externally funded research program and direct thesis research of M.S. and/or Ph.D. level graduate students. Ability to serve as advisor to undergraduate and graduate students. Preferred: Previous university-level teaching experience. Research specialty is open and should complement those of current faculty.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Biology, including introductory-level biology and botany courses for majors and non-majors, Field Botany, Plant Ecology and advanced botany courses. Develop an externally funded research program. Serve as advisor to undergraduate and graduate students, direct thesis research of M.S. and/or Ph.D. level graduate students, serve as curator of the herbarium and build upon the reference collection of local flora, and provide service to the university.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
