Elite Eight Wraps With Rick Pitino vs. Coach K, Sizzling Trey Burke

Tom Izzo pitted against Mike Krzyzewski was sensational in the Sweet 16, but coach Rick Pitino's Louisville program may be the most relevant in the country right now, after narrowly losing the national title last year.

Pitino has made six trips to the Final Four and a seventh would tie him for fourth all-time with North Carolina's Roy Williams. Krzyzewski though, is gunning for his 12th, which would tie him with John Wooden for most all time. Don't forget that the last time the two met one another, this happened.

In our other tilt, the combination of speed and athleticism between Florida and Michigan should be incredible. Both teams love to get up and down, and both teams also feature premier head coaches. It will be interesting to see how the Wolverines -- fresh off a highly emotional come-from-behind victory over Kansas, will respond less than 48 hours after the fact.

Here are the can't miss matchups to watch in the Elite 8 games Sunday.

Duke SG Seth Curry vs. Louisville Guards Peyton Siva and Russ Smith

Duke's Seth Curry was lights out against Michigan State, totaling 29 points on 6-9 shooting from three. MSU's Spartans, though, do not feature the same elite quickness as Louisville with its stellar duo of guards. Nor do they trap in the half-court. Louisville's Russ Smith is an electric and hyperactive jitterbug who disrupts the rhythm of scorers with his hands and foot speed. Aside from peaking offensively right now -- he had a career high 31 Friday and is averaging 27 points per game in the tournament -- Smith will trail Curry on every staggered screen and fight over every ball screen. Lousiville's Peyton Siva will do the same thing, albeit not quite as well, but that combination along with the superior length of the Cardinals will make scoring a severe challenge for Curry.

Michigan PG Trey Burke vs. Florida PG Scottie Wilbekin

Amidst his struggles, I'm not sure if anybody has remained higher on Michigan's Trey Burke than myself. His ability to control a game even when he's not scoring is a rare trait and, now that he's rolling once again offensively, he's just a brutal matchup any way you dice it up.

Florida's Scottie Wilbekin though, while under the radar a bit, is a terrific defender who really fights through screens and understands how to play on the ball. He's far from the scoring threat of Burke, but the junior does average 9 points and 5 assists for the Gators while shooting a career high 46 percent from the floor. His No. 1 priority Sunday is to keep Burke out of the paint. However, even when he cannot manage to do so, his powerful teammate Patric Young will be waiting to disrupt and obstruct. The bottom line though, is that as good as Michigan's Tim Hardaway, Jr. and Mitch McGary have been, Burke is the engine and jet fuel that drives the Michigan offense. He has to be really good against the Gators.

Two killed in attack on Libyan military camp

TRIPOLI (Reuters) - Two Libyan military officers were killed and three soldiers injured when unknown assailants forced their way into a military camp in the desert south, an army spokesman said on Saturday.

The early morning attack happened at the Tamahind base, which was previously a storage place for army equipment under ousted dictator Muammar Gaddafi and is near the desert town of Sabha, some 800 km (500 miles) south of the capital Tripoli.

Sabha residents contacted by phone said the attackers came in eight cars before fleeing.

"They came in by cars, shooting. Two officers were killed and three others were injured," Ali al-Sheikhli, spokesman for the army chief of staff, said. "An investigation is under way."

General Ramadan al-Barasi, military governor for the south, was not in the camp during the attack but his assistant Musa al-Awami was among the casualties, Sheikhli said.

In the chaos since Gaddafi's fall in 2011, the North African country's vast desert south has become a smuggling route for weapons which have reached al Qaeda militants deeper in the Sahara. The lawless region is also a conduit for trafficking legal and contraband goods.

Libya's national congress declared the south a military zone in December and ordered the temporary closure of borders with Algeria, Niger, Chad and Sudan.

The decree gave the defense ministry powers to appoint a military governor with authority to arrest fugitives from justice and deport illegal immigrants.

Are you on a quest to unravel the mystery of how to earn instant online profits? There are all sorts of ways to do this, however the most sure-fire way is most likely by getting involved in Affiliate Marketing.

A normal person can get into Affiliate Marketing using his or her own advertising efforts as an Affiliate to bring people to the Affiliate Vendor's internet site. The Affiliate gets paid a commission when that visitor purchases the Vendor's item. Often, commissions are earned just by the Affiliate entering their name and email address into a Vendors online form!

As soon as you select which item to advertise, you acquire what's called an "affiliate link". This stringy link contains your Affiliate ID so that, when clicked on during the purchase process, the Affiliate Vendor knows to pay you your commission. The most widely known Affiliate Marketing sites are Amazon, Clickbank, Ebay Partner Network and Commission Junction, to name a few. These business have a multitude of products in several niches for your choosing.

Nonetheless, in order to figure out how to earn instant online profits with Affiliate Marketing, you need to know where to take the initial step.

The first move is to choose a niche that you would like to sell in. Ideally, select a specific niche that you are passionate about; a subject that you might be able to discuss all day, since it's easier to advertise things that interest you. Some good examples of prevailing niches are Relationships, E-Business & Marketing and Health & Fitness, to name but a few.

You'll need to google the "Google Keyword Tool" and "Google Trends" to research your niche and product in a strategic, insightful manner. Google Trends will tell you if your niche is still in the mainstream and you can use the Google Keyword Tool to see if your chosen niche keywords are getting a decent amount of search traffic every month.

Next comes your affiliate product selection. Only pick high-grade products whose Vendors can demonstrate their successful sales record. You need that special something that's going to rid your buyer of their pain and solve a huge problem they've been faced with that has kept them up at night worrying!

So now that your niche and product selection process is done, it's time to discover how to earn instant online profits by putting the following handy tips into action:

You can start off by building a product review site. Basically, you summarize the pros and cons of the product in a short article that needs to appear unbiased. Thus, it would be a good idea to actually purchase the item so you can put forward your opinion in a thorough, honest manner. However, in these tough economic times you may have to opt instead for looking around forums and other testimonial sites of your particular product to gather enough information for your review. Always remember to sprinkle your affiliate link throughout your review post, of course!

You can also jump on the social media band wagon by setting up either a Facebook fan page or a tab on your current business page. This should distinctively display your sales item in a monetized fashion or at least bring your fans right to your affiliate sales form.

You've probably heard mention of "squeeze" or "landing" pages before, right? Well, their purpose is to "squeeze" information, like names and email addresses, out of prospects and they can be built right inside Facebook or take the form of a one page website. You then take that assembled information and put it all into an autoresponder system. "AWeber" is an excellent place to open one of these types of accounts. What happens next is that your prospective clients get a series of email messages in their inbox automatically over the course of a week or two. The first emails should be "warm and friendly" since you'll need to build a relationship with your readers to get them to know and like you. After a while, you'll hopefully build up enough trust that your audience will click on your cleverly inserted links in the later emails and end up as paying customers!
Of course, the option is always there to put your affiliate product in the limelight by posting a quick review on your personal blog that contains your affiliate link, of course.

You can also harness the power of YouTube by creating personal video reviews of your affiliate product and uploading them to your YouTube channel. Better still, you can embed the videos into your product review site! This could also increase your search engine ranking, as Google owns YouTube and loves it when videos are featured in blogs.

Another effective approach would be to join online forums that are relevant to your chosen niche. Don't just go in there and start selling your product right away: Instead, participate in conversations and answer questions to help people out, at first. Then, after some time, you can start mentioning your product, showing the forum members how it can solve their problems or meet their needs.

The above pointers are simply a few ideas to illustrate how to earn instant online profits. You can mix and match these different approaches to suit your particular product-and throw in any other new techniques you come across as well, of course!
I hope you obtained some useful insight into the Realm of Affiliate Marketing by reading this. There's nothing to stop you from immediately launching your affiliate product promotion now!

Gun control: Did Obama let the moment pass?

While polls show a shift in US attitudes, President Obama is insisting, 100 days after the massacre in Newtown, Ct., that it's not too late to get gun control legislation through Congress.

By Linda Feldmann,?Staff writer / March 29, 2013

President Barack Obama urges Congress to take action on measures to protect children from gun violence, Thursday, March 28, 2013, while speaking in the East Room of the White House in Washington.

Has the moment passed for tighter gun restrictions?

President Obama himself raised that question Thursday at a White House event aimed at revitalizing the prospects for legislation, 100 days after a Connecticut elementary school massacre that shocked the nation.

Flanked by families affected by gun violence, the president made an emotional plea for action and insisted it?s not too late.

?The notion that two months or three months after something as horrific as what happened at Newtown happens, and we?ve moved on to other things?? he said. ?That?s not who we are.?

Next Wednesday, Obama will travel to Colorado to highlight the state?s new laws requiring universal background checks for gun buyers and a ban on ammunition magazines of more than 15 rounds. Colorado has seen two of the deadliest shootings in US history ? one last July in Aurora, the other at Columbine High School in 1999.

There are certainly signs that momentum toward significant gun legislation has slipped since Newtown.?In a CBS News poll out Monday, 47 percent of respondents said gun control laws should be more strict, down from 57 percent right after the Newtown massacre. According to Politico, the National Rifle Association is enjoying record fundraising, which translates into more donations to politicians.

In the Senate, a growing roster of Republicans is ready to filibuster legislation. On Thursday, two senators, Marco Rubio of Florida and James Inhofe of Oklahoma, joined three others ? Rand Paul of Kentucky, Mike Lee of Utah, and Ted Cruz of Texas ? in signing a letter threatening to filibuster any bill with new restrictions on guns.

Police: Babysitter locked toddlers in closet

By Lauren DiSanto, NBCPhiladelphia.com

A teenage babysitter from Newark, Del., is facing a dozen charges of endangering the welfare of a child after police say she locked up 3-year-old twins in the closet of her apartment.

New Castle County police say Veronica Miller, an unlicensed daycare provider, would lock the twins in a closet while she drove to another location to pick up several other children she also watched.

After getting a tip, police went to Miller's apartment on Thursday afternoon.

A maintenance worker let officers inside the apartment, where they found a chair wedged in the hallway between the closet and bathroom door. Police say when they opened the door, they saw the twin toddlers sleeping on the floor with pillows and blankets.

Police say this wasn't the first time this had happened and believe Miller had been doing this since mid-February.

The twins were in good health.

The Division of Family Services is helping police with the investigation.

Woodside Plantation Clubhouse - Retirement Community and ...

The 2013 Masters Tournament is set to begin on April 11 through the 14 in Augusta, Georgia.? This year's Masters is one of four major championships in men's professional golf.? The nine top contenders to watch are;? Luke Donald, Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose, Brand Snedeker, Bubba Watson and Tiger Woods.

While all eyes are on The Masters golf tournament, in the world of master-planned communities, there is much going on at two quality residential communities nearby the Masters, which is held at Augusta National Golf Club.??

Reynolds Plantation, which is located about an hour east of Augusta, Georgia is a golf and boating community located on the shores of Lake Oconee.? This 19,000 Georgia lake has attracted buyers from all over the U.S. for the past two decades - primary families looking to relocate out of Atlanta as Reynolds is just 70 minutes east, second home buyers looking for a boating and golf community, as well as relocating retirees from all over the United States who are looking for an established master-planned development that is within easy proximity to a city both the size and caliber of Atlanta in the Southeast.

In the summer of 2012, Reynolds Plantation was purchased by subsidiaries of MetLife and since, the community which already was impressive, has been receiving much attention to detail, with significant renovations enhancing several of their golf courses, the amenity buildings, the on-site Ritz-Carlton Lodge, and even down to the landscape seen throughout the community.?

Residents of Reynolds Plantation have commented since MetLife took over last summer.? They are happy to see the renovations and enhancements taking place in this already, impressive master-planned community.? And it shows - as both residents and prospective buyers coming to look at Reynolds Plantation on Lake Oconee are noticing just how beautiful this Southeastern master-planned development looks and how well it is being maintained.

No doubt the improving real estate market is also having a positive impact on sales in the first quarter of 2013 for this Georgia master-planned golf and boating community.? Yet, we can't help but think both the financial infusion of capital coupled with the financial stability provided by MetLife since taking it over, is both enhancing the development and giving prospective buyers peace of mind knowing there is a solid entity behind the enhancements being made to Reynolds.??

Reynolds Landing Cottages - Lake Oconee, GA For the first 60 days in 2013, tours for Reynolds Plantation by prospective buyers have increased 50% and real estate closings are up 75%.? Add to it, Reynolds Plantation has close to $30 million in new home starts underway, which include everything from weekend getaway homes being built by young active families to lakefront estate homes for relocating retirees.

Reynolds Plantation is releasing some exclusive lakefront properties which will offer beautiful lake views and they anticipate these home sites will be received well by current prospective buyers.

MetLife seems to be very happy with the reception they are receiving from current Reynolds Plantation residents.? MetLife acknowledges that the community's 3,200 members are supporting the six championship golf clubs more than ever.? Golf rounds are up, the four marinas are busy, membership dues remained the same this year and the owners' association is fully funded with a healthy reserve balance.

The Great Waters Golf Course, a Jack Nicklaus Signature design is receiving some enhancements to its waterfront holes as well as cart paths, comfort stations and golfers were greeted by Great Waters' newly painted clubhouse this season.

At The Landing Golf Course, Bob Cupp, the course designer along with former Augusta National course superintendent? Billy Fuller, helped choreograph a renovation to this course which includes hole redesigns, new bunkering, expansion of tee boxes, a new set of forward tees and work on cart paths and buildings.? Additionally, peripheral ornamental grasses that evoke a "heath land" feel are adding shape and challenges to many holes.? The Landing Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation will re-open in April.

Ritz Carlton Lodge - Reynolds PlantationThe Ritz Carlton Lodge at Reynolds Plantation is undergoing a sizable renovation to the grounds, its exterior, the main dining venue at Georgia's Bistro along with all 251 guest rooms, suites and cottages.? This work will hopefully be completed in time for The Masters.? A new coffee shop has been added to the resort's amenities.?

The Sandy Creek Barn, Reynolds Plantation's latest amenity, will be added to this community's line-up of distinct amenity venues at this Georgia master-planned community.? Members of the Club and guests of the Ritz Carlton Lodge will enjoy a pastoral setting of this fully-restored 1820's era Pennsylvania Dutch barn which overlooks a private 44-acre lake and is situated among 800 acres of pine forest.? The Sandy Creek Barn will be a unique alternative for corporate retreats, family reunions and memory-filled weddings.

Metlife has additional enhancements planned for Reynolds Plantation going forward.? It makes for an exciting time for this golf and lake community located almost equidistant from Atlanta and Augusta, Georgia, where the Masters Tournament will be held early April.?

Woodside Plantation, a master-planned golf community located in Aiken, South Carolina is less than 30 minutes from Augusta, where The Masters will take place and is also adding amenities and enhancements to its community for its residents to enjoy.

Woodside Plantation has recently opened their new 22,000 square feet, state-of-the-art Village Health and Wellness Center that offers an indoor heated saltwater pool, the latest in fitness equipment including the Greg Norman Cybex system and spa.? In addition, Woodside Plantation offers miles of walking trails, parks and nature preserves for its residents to enjoy.? Like Reynolds Plantation, Woodside Plantation is a seasoned established gated development that offers a sense of community.? There are many social events planned every week, various clubs to choose from and hobby groups among its residents and newcomers.? Woodside is known for its four championship golf courses and is located in the charming and quaint town of Aiken, South Carolina.

In addition, Woodside Plantation has introduced their Pine Glen Collection of homes which offer a great value combined with the practicality yet elegant living we see today's buyer is looking for.? These homes are constructed from cedar and brick and use today's energy-efficient building materials.? The floor plans have been thoughtfully designed which include incorporating outdoor living space.? The Pine Glen Collection of homes range in size from 1,956 to 2,128 SF, featuring 2-4 bedrooms, 2-3 baths and floor plans with an option for additional square footage - building out on the second floor.? These homes are well-appointed with interior features and are priced from the mid $200's.

Woodside Plantation Golf Course - Aiken, SC Woodside Plantation in Aiken, South Carolina is a community with completed amenities and a developer that has owned the community since the mid 1990's.? This has provided Woodside property owners the security of a financially stable community.? Woodside is a master-planned community appealing to the distinctive tastes of golfers who are looking for a high quality golf experience in their own community.? Yet, given all of Woodside Plantation's other amenities, this community also appeals to those who do not golf.?

Woodside offers a Nicklaus Design course called The Reserve, which is continuously placed as one of South Carolina's best golf courses.? Woodside's additional golf courses, The Wisteria (Rees Jones designed) and The Plantation (Bob Cupp designed) also offer an enjoyable and challenging golf experience.? Woodside's newest course, Hollow Creek, has been designed by Fuzzy Zoeller.? There are two driving ranges, practice greens, a teaching facility and a pro-shop making Woodside Plantation a wonderful community to consider in the Southeast for the golf enthusiast.

Woodside Plantation also offers tennis, clubhouses with dining, an outdoor pool and previously mentioned new health and wellness center all behind their gated entrance.

So, while all eyes are on the Masters golf tournament in two weeks, if you plan to visit the area, perhaps are considering retiring and relocating to the Southeast and are looking for quality golf communities, both Reynolds Plantation and Woodside Plantation are two master-planned golf communities with a host of other amenities as well.??

Send an email to info@southeastdiscovery.com or call 877.886.8388 and we'll be happy to send you a packet on either or both developments to review.? If you'd like to set up a time to tour either community while in town for the Masters or if you plan to visit this spring or summer, let us know and we'll send you their Discovery Package upon request.

How To Market Your Business For Free Using Twitter | Content for ...

Author: Dave M Williams | Total views: 101 Comments: 0
Word Count: 711 Date:

Today we're going to discuss how you can build your business for free using Twitter. Twitter has grown to be one of the largest social media networks on the internet, and is actively visited by celebrities and high-profile people.

If you want to put Twitter to work for your business, you first need to create an account on Twitter. Register for free and upload a picture and a short description of yourself or your business. Make sure you include your main website in your bio.

Next thing you want to do is to write and post around 20 tweets. This is so your account doesn't look empty when people visit it to check if you are "follow-worthy".

All right, now that you got an account you need to get yourself a good Twitter client so that you don't have to use the normal Twitter interface (which kinda sucks.)

I strongly recommend that you Google "HootSuite", which is a free website that manages your Twitter account.

Spend some time getting yourself familiar with HootSuits interface, and then setup your "columns" over there like this:

Column #1: Sent tweets

This is your tweet stream. Keep this one handy to know what you just said.

Column #2: Mentions

It will track who is mentioning you and replying to your tweets. It's important to respond to these occasionally and to respond to them quickly. This will ensure that the people you interact with visit your profile and start following you.

Column #3: Influencers list

It's important to know who your influencers are and what they are tweeting, so you can get on their radar. You could follow your influencers, but I don't like to until there's been some interaction.

Instead, I use private lists, the Twitter-feature to keep tabs.

Here's how to set them up in HootSuite:

Step 1: Click on "Add Stream."
Step 2: From the pop-up menu, select "Lists."
Step 3: Select your profile from the drop-down menu.
Step 4: Select the "Create a New List" radio button.
Step 5: Name the list "Influencers."
Step 6: Add a description (optional).
Step 7: Click the "Add Stream" button.
Step 8: Once the stream is added, click the triangle on the top of the column.
Step 9: From the drop-down, select "Preferences."
Step 10: Add users to your list by typing in their usernames and clicking "Add."

Make sure to set this list as "private", otherwise everyone can see it, and it will notify who ever's on the list.

Column #4: Scheduled tweets

I use this column to keep tabs on what I've scheduled ahead of time to know what's coming and if I need to add more tweets or perhaps adjust my Tweet Schedule.

Column #5: My tweets, retweeted

The My Tweets, ReTweeted column shows you who is retweeting your tweets.

Column #6: Search filters

The best thing about HootSuite is that you can monitor search results in real-time. We're going to save those in the next set of columns.

My next step, while interacting with Twitter influencers is courting potential followers. It's also stupid simple. All I did was monitor the real-time keyword and hashtag searches I setup earlier, and reply to people's tweets. Most of the time it was answering questions, but I found an insightful comment or even an encouraging message beneficial.

As soon as you see something interesting in the real-time search column, be sure to answer it. Do this every day for 30-60 minutes and you will gather a large following of twitter fans in no time.

After that you can just post links to your website in between all the cool "normal" things that you tweet to your followers. Also, make sure that you track the traffic coming to your site from Twitter, so that you know how many visitors you are getting from your efforts. Try this and you will start to see visitors coming to your website from Twitter every time you post a tweet that includes a link back to your website.

Rolling Stones to play Britain's Glastonbury festival for first time

(Reuters) - The Rolling Stones will play Britain's Glastonbury music festival for the first time, organizers announced on Wednesday, joining Arctic Monkeys and folk band Mumford & Sons as headliners at the three-day June event.

The appearance by the veteran British rock group follows weeks of rumors that the Stones, who in 2012 celebrated 50 years in the music business with a handful of concerts, finally would play at Glastonbury, one of Europe's biggest music festivals.

According to a line-up on the Glastonbury website for the June 28-30 festival in western England, the Rolling Stones will play the main Pyramid Stage. The exact date of their appearance was not listed.

"Can't wait to play Glastonbury. I have my wellies and my yurt!" Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, referring to rain boots and an elaborate tent.

The line-up also includes British rapper Dizzee Rascal, rock band Primal Scream, Australian rocker Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, singer Elvis Costello, veteran American country singer Kenny Rogers and British folk-rocker Billy Bragg among others.

Members of the Stones have been saying for weeks that they would like to play Glastonbury for the first time in their long careers.

The band played a series of mini-concerts in London and the United States in November and December that sold out quickly, as well as marking 50 years of hits like "Honky Tonk Women" and "Angie" with a documentary, photograph book and greatest hits album.

Speculation has also been rife that the Stones will launch a full world tour in 2013, which would be the band's first since their 2005-2007 "A Bigger Bang" tour.

Develop A Bigger Online Brand Through These Internet Promotion ...

There have been many novice PC users who have seen major success with Internet businesses; you may be the next Internet superstar. This article contains useful advice for anyone that wants to create an Internet business.

If you want to run a good business on the internet, then you should find out what your competition is doing. Browse sites selling products similar to your own, and make note of what they are doing right and wrong. When you notice lacking services on other websites, you should make sure these services are emphasized on your site in order to stand out from the crowd.

Give your customers the appearance that they are in complete control of the content being delivered. This is important today in a marketing world full of spam and unwanted opinions. Broadcast that it is optional for them to participate, and that will increase your visibility and credibility.

Try to use banners on your website that are not obvious in looking like a banner. Use banners that are links to click on to get to more content. Many people find banners a real turn-off, so this practice may entice them to click where they otherwise would not have.

NOTE! When it comes to Internet marketing, it is important to watch what your competition is doing. It does not matter what your niche is, you will have competition at all times.

There is tough competition on the Internet from big companies. There are two things that you can do to address this issue: compare your prices against your competitors? prices, and adjust your prices based on the comparisons. In addition, you should showcase your products in an online store of your own inside this marketplace where your customers can conveniently view your products.

Internet marketing is both alike and different than other kinds of marketing. For example, you may find that search engines are no longer paying attention to your title tags. If things get changed up, you should be willing to change your approach as well, like putting an effort into marketing via videos.

One critical factor is gaining and maintaining your customers? trust. As you develop your marketing plan, you should only consider facts and statistics that are easily proven and valid. Use testimonials, expert endorsements, and results on your site to promote your products.

Pay attention to what the other companies are doing, and try to think of new ideas based of what you learn. If they are succeeding, you need to analyze what they are doing.

NOTE! Attaching your keyword to internal links is very useful. Your page index relies on individuals spending time reading your content.

Of course, mastering any respective field or niche is going to take a lot of time and practice, but you have to get started somewhere. Utilize the info in this post to jump start your process and reach your end goal sooner.

OK, we?re pretty much finished for now?

I?ll go ahead and deliver some more online marketing methods for you 24 hours from now. Do feel free to, write your thoughts below and I?ll see what can be done to help you out.

Thank you for spending your precious time with me today and talk with you the next time.

Fighter Jet Lamp Carpet Bombs Any Room With Light

Packing what appears to be a couple of bombs capable of wiping out a small city, this fighter jet-themed pendant light will hang from the ceiling and provide air superiority—and soft illumination—to any room. It requires six 40 watt bulbs in total—installed inside and outside the frosted fuselage and bombs—and when compared to the hundreds of millions of dollars the Air Force spends on fighters, $260 for this sounds like a bargain. Tenor Bryan Hymel wins Met Opera's Sills award

NEW YORK (AP) ? A tenor from New Orleans has won the prestigious Beverly Sills Award that signals a star in the works.

Bryan Hymel (EE'-mehl) accepted the $50,000 prize Monday at the Metropolitan Opera.

The 33-year-old Hymel made his debut there in December. He jumped in to take over the daunting lead role in Berlioz's "The Trojans" from another singer.

The Sills award honoring the late American artist goes annually to a vocalist from 25 to 40 who has appeared in a featured role at the Met.

Hymel's powerful but lyrical voice already has triumphed at London's Covent Garden. His other major venues have included the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.

He'll sing Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" at the Met next season.

He trained at Philadelphia's Academy of Vocal Arts.

parkinsons Early Thinking Problems May Signal Future Dementia in Parkinsons Patients

By Steven Reinberg
HealthDay Reporter

MONDAY, March 25 (HealthDay News) ? People newly diagnosed with Parkinson?s disease who have minor thinking problems may be on the way to early dementia, according to a new Norwegian study.

Some people with Parkinson?s go on to develop dementia, but whether it is possible to predict who will fall into this group hasn?t been clear. In this new study, researchers wanted to see if early signs of thinking problems would indicate who these patients might be.

?Mild thinking problems seem to be an important clinical concept for early detection of patients with Parkinson?s disease who are at risk to develop dementia,? said lead researcher Dr. Kenn Freddy Pedersen, from the Norwegian Center for Movement Disorders at Stavanger University Hospital.

?Specifically, we found that more than 27 percent of patients with thinking problems at diagnosis progressed to dementia during the first three years of follow-up,? he said. ?Even more interesting, almost half of the patients with persistent thinking problems one year after diagnosis developed dementia during the next two years.?

One result was more encouraging: For some patients, thinking ability returned to normal over the course of the study.

Although there is no immediate clinical implication to the new findings, they may be important for trials of drugs that might slow or reverse the process leading to dementia, and the findings may also help in managing patients, Pedersen said.

The report was published March 25 in the online edition of the journal JAMA Neurology.

Dr. Brian Copeland, a movement disorder fellow at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and co-author of an accompanying journal editorial, said the study indicates that patients with ongoing evidence of thinking problems are at higher risk of getting dementia.

Although identifying patients with thinking problems is easy to do when Parkinson?s disease is diagnosed, there isn?t a way to accurately classify patients, so it isn?t clear whether early thinking problems really predict dementia, he said.

?[The finding's] value in predicting Parkinson?s disease dementia is less clear and needs further research,? Copeland said.

To map the course of thinking problems in Parkinson?s patients, Pedersen?s team followed 182 patients for three years. Participants completed a battery of screening exams, including tests of their memory, verbal fluency and color-naming ability.

During the study, 27 percent of patients who had thinking problems at diagnosis went on to develop dementia, compared with 0.7 percent of those who didn?t have thinking problems, the researchers said.

For some patients, however, normal thinking returned. Among those with thinking problems, about 19 percent saw their thinking problems clear up, Pedersen?s group found.

The progression to dementia was also dependent on how severe the patient?s thinking problems were, the researchers noted.

Among patients with the most severe thinking problems at the start of the study and one year later, 45.5 percent went on to develop dementia while only about 9 percent saw their thinking restored to normal, the researchers said.

Although the study found an association between mild thinking problems in patients newly diagnosed with Parkinson?s disease and later dementia, it did not establish a cause-and-effect relationship.

Google Analytics Now Makes It Easier To Track Inbound Links And Stats From Its Social Hub Partners

Image (1) google-analytics-logo.png for post 23767Google today announced that it has redesigned some of Google Analytics‘ social reports to make it easier for publishers to see when they get inbound links from other sites. The update also makes it easier to track how people are engaging with a publisher’s content through the new Data Hub Activity report. Google Analytics’ Social Data Hub gets this data from partner sites like Reddit, and Digg and through commenting systems like Disqus, Echo and Livefyre, as well as a number of other services. The standalone Data Hub Activity report provides publishers with a “timeline of the number of activities that have occurred in the Social Data Hub and the raw activities in a list below.” The data can also be filtered by specific networks. All of this Social Hub data was already available previously, but it was mostly buried deep inside Google Analytics’ social reports. Now that this data is more visible, integrating with the Analytics Social Data Hub will surely become more interesting for companies that operate social networks and platforms as more Analytics users will now be aware of it and ask for this kind of integration so they can track all of their social engagement data in one place. Stats about trackbacks, too, were already available in Google Analytics, but they are now available in a standalone report. Previously, however, it was hard to see how important a certain inbound link really was. The new report, Google says, now provides more context “for the significance of each of these trackbacks by displaying the number of visits that were driven by each endorsing URL during the reporting period.”

SD Sen. Tim Johnson retirement opens door for GOP

Ghanbari, File)

(AP) ? The anticipated retirement announcement from South Dakota Sen. Tim Johnson gives Republicans one of their best chances of picking up a seat in their quest to regain control, as the veteran moderate Democrat steps aside.

Johnson, the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, is expected to say Tuesday afternoon that he will not seek a fourth term in the Senate next year.

The fifth Senate Democrat to call it quits, Johnson was facing a potentially difficult challenge from popular Republican Gov. Mike Rounds and still coping with the constraints of a 2006 brain hemorrhage that left his speech impaired and limited his mobility. The absence of the well-funded former congressman who has never lost an election in this GOP-trending state pushed the race to the top of the priority list, Republican strategists said.

"I believe South Dakota moves into the top slot as the most likely Republican pickup," said Greg Strimple, a Republican pollster and past consultant to the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Johnson was scheduled to speak Tuesday at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

For weeks, Johnson's longtime aides and allies have suggested the 66-year-old would step down in 2014, despite his return to the Senate after the life-threatening hemorrhage. His recovery has been significant, though his speech remains impaired and he sometimes uses a motorized scooter.

Johnson's re-election in 2008 after the brain injury sealed his reputation for resilience. But long before, he had established a profile as a loyal Democrat but with an independent streak that made him a formidable candidate. He won re-election to the Senate against the popular Republican U.S. Rep. John Thune, now South Dakota's senior senator, after voting against the resolution to authorize the use of military force in Iraq and despite campaigning for Thune by Republican President George W. Bush.

Johnson has sided with Democrats on key issues such as the 2010 Affordable Care Act. He also has been an environmental advocate. But he also has supported the Keystone XL oil pipeline, which is mapped to cross South Dakota and fiercely opposed by environmentalists.

He also has $1.2 million in his re-election campaign account, a healthy nest egg for a state where television advertising is relatively inexpensive. He retains a robust fundraising network, thanks to his deep-pocketed committee connections.

Despite those advantages, Johnson joins Democratic Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, and Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey as seasoned and influential Democrats departing the chamber, where Republicans need to gain six seats to take control. Among those states, West Virginia was carried by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney last year.

Two Republican senators have announced their retirements, both in Republican-performing states Georgia and Nebraska.

South Dakota, a reliably independent state just a decade ago, has trended sharply Republican in the past decade. Where Democrats once boasted two influential Democratic senators, Republicans now control the Legislature, governorship, the lone U.S. House seat and the other Senate seat.

But Democrats dismissed the notion that Johnson's retirement opens the door for a GOP senator. In last November's election, some Republican Senate candidates who appeared to be the heavy favorites ended up losing to Democratic rivals ? including Rick Berg, who lost to Heidi Heitkamp in neighboring North Dakota.

"I reject the idea that somehow the Republicans have a lock on this state," Nesselhuf said. "By no means is this an impossible task, or even improbable."

Devotees say Johnson's personality ? reserved and contemplative ? has been the key to the respect and influence he has amassed.

Bernie Hunhoff, minority leader in the South Dakota House, described Johnson as a pioneering advocate for women's and children's issues during his early days in the state Legislature. Johnson set the standard for Democrats, by staying true to progressive principles, while also reaching out across the electorate in a politically diverse state, said Hunhoff.

"He's more progressive than the average voter, but they obviously set that aside because they liked what they saw," Hunhoff said. "I think you'd describe Tim as a typical South Dakotan ? quiet, stoic, practical ? a good neighbor."

Despite contentious congressional and campaign battles, Johnson has remained "a gentleman," known more for thinking than talking, former South Dakota Democratic Party Chairwoman Judy Olson Duhamel said. "He's earned the respect of everybody he's ever worked with or for," she said.

Attempts by The Associated Press to reach Johnson through his top Senate staff were unsuccessful. Johnson aides would not confirm the retirement but said the senator would announce his political plans Tuesday in Vermillion.

Aware that Johnson might decide to retire, Democrats in South Dakota and nationally have discussed possible successors on the ticket, including Johnson's son Brendan, South Dakota's U.S. attorney. The younger Johnson Monday said in an interview that he was unaware of his father's decision and declined to discuss whether he would seek the office.

Former U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, a contemporary of Brendan Johnson and another heir to a South Dakota Democratic legacy, also is looking at running. A granddaughter of former South Dakota Gov. Ralph Herseth, Herseth Sandlin served six years in the U.S. House before being defeated for re-election in 2010.

Brendan Johnson, appointed U.S. attorney in 2009, has never held elected office and faced questions about his father's involvement in the confirmation process. Assets for the younger Johnson include his father's advisers and donor base.

Herseth Sandlin also has an in-tact network and following in South Dakota, but she could face some problems in a potential primary with Johnson. She opposed to the 2010 Affordable Care Act, a position that is out of step with a majority of party loyalists.

Neighbors thrilled by N.J. man's $338M Powerball win

PASSAIC, N.J. (AP) ? Pedro Quezada's neighbors see a lot of themselves in the winner of the $338 million Powerball jackpot: hardworking, a family man, an immigrant, and someone who has known hard times.

That's why they're so thrilled that one of their own has finally struck it rich.

Quezada, 44, entered Eagle Liquors store, where his ticket was sold, late Monday afternoon. The Passaic store's owner ran Quezada's ticket through the lottery machine and, as a newspaper and television outlets recorded the moment, validated that it was a winner.

"This is super for all of us on this block," said Eladia Vazquez, who has lived across the street from Quezada's building for the past 25 years. Quezada and his family "deserve it because they are hardworking people."

Quezada told reporters in Spanish that he was "very happy" and that he intends to help his family.

"I still can't believe it," his wife, Ines Sanchez, told The Record in Bergen County. "We never expected it, but thank God."

The New Jersey Lottery confirmed that the winning ticket was validated at Eagle Liquors at 4:30 p.m. Monday, but officials said they didn't yet know the winner's name.

The numbers drawn Saturday were 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and Powerball 31. A lump sum payout would be $221 million, or about $152 million after taxes. It's the fourth-largest jackpot in Powerball history.

The Quezada family's apartment sits at the end of a short dead end block that abuts a highway in Passaic, 15 miles northwest of New York City.

The block has a half-dozen three-story brick apartment buildings on each side, and Vazquez says it's a neighborhood where everyone knows everyone, including what car they drive and what parking space they use.

Alberto Liranzo, who lives two floors below Quezada, said the lottery winner has five children and owns a bodega in Passaic.

Dominican immigrant Jose Gonzalez said he barbecues and plays dominoes with Quezada in the summers in a backyard on their street.

"He sometimes would work from six in the morning to 11 at night, so I did not see him much," Gonzalez said in Spanish Monday night. "I am happy for him. ... I don't know where he is now but I imagine he will drop by to say hi to his friends."

Neighbors told The Record that the Quezada family has suffered bad luck in recent years. Two years, ago, thieves broke into their apartment and stole everything from clothing to jewelry. The year before, a fire destroyed much of their bodega, they said.

Now, the family's luck has changed with their Powerball success.

"It's a blessing for the neighborhood," resident Daphne Robinson told The Record. "It gives people hope that there is a blessing somewhere, for somebody."

Richard Delgado, who lives down the block from Quezada's building, also described Quezada as "a hard worker, like all of us here. We all get up in the morning and go to work."

Delgado said he got up Sunday morning and was going to take his dog for a walk when he heard the radio announce the Powerball results.

"When I heard there was one winner and it was in New Jersey, I immediately went and checked my tickets," Delgado said. "I wanted to be that guy."

When asked what it would be like to suddenly win such a large amount, Delgado said a person would have to set priorities.

"No. 1 is your health, because if you don't have that, the rest doesn't matter," he said. "No. 2 is your family. You take care of your own and live the rest of your life in peace. That's all anyone can do."

No one had won the Powerball jackpot since early February, when Dave Honeywell in Virginia bought the winning ticket and elected a cash lump sum for his $217 million jackpot.

The largest Powerball jackpot ever came in at $587.5 million in November. The winning numbers were picked on two different tickets ? one by a couple in Missouri and the other by an Arizona man ? and the jackpot was split.

Nebraska still holds the record for the largest Powerball jackpot won on a single ticket ? $365 million ? by eight workers at a Lincoln meatpacking plant in February 2006.

Powerball is played in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The chance of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is about 1 in 175 million.

George Kent - vinyl windows Mississauga contractors

If you're looking for the best roofing contractors Mississauga has to offer, and you want to ensure the best quality of investment is made, contact George Kent Improvements Ltd.

Lemoore, Canada (prHWY.com) March 24, 2013 - George Kent Home Improvements Ltd., is one of the only roofing contractors in Mississauga, Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area which hold GAF Master Elite certification, available only for 2% of Canadian home improvement companies. The best roofing contractors Mississauga can offer are not only roofers, but also very specialized in many other types of home improvement processes, and they're the only ones which offer lifetime warranty, as opposed to a maximum of 5 years warranty for roofs and windows for the competition. Roofs are however the most important part of the house when it comes to protection against the elements.
A good roof has to be strong and made of the most stable materials the market can sell. The roofs protect the people living inside the house from winds, rain, snow and offer protection in general from the other elements. They help keep the whole home clean, because no dust gets inside the house from powerful gushes of wind, and in the seasons, they really make sure that the people in the house can live in comfort. In the spring and autumn, they stop heavy rains, in the winter they stop snow and wind from affecting the people inside, and in the summer they keep the heat out. A good roof does that for a longer period, and a it is only as good as the materials, labor force and quality of the roofing company are. It must have leak barriers, deck protection and insulation to keep the cold outside and the heat inside in the winter, and viceversa in summer. To keep roofs safe for a longer period of time, the company also has to provide annual checkups. These help to see if there are any cracks and leaks in the roof the company built.
If the roof keeps the elements from affecting the people inside, the windows have to keep the elements out and the light coming inside the house. Glass is not as strong and resistant as the materials that roofs are made from, and building a window which helps the people inside feel safe and enjoy daylight is more than a challenge and should be handled only by professionals.
Of all the vinyl windows Mississauga companies, George Kent Home Improvements Ltd., ensures the same quality with windows as with other installations. The vinyl sidings in the windows help prevent moisture from getting inside the house, and by preventing that, they also prevent bacteria, mites and mold from forming in the window siding. The company, which is selected for the Consumers' Choice Award as the best Siding Toronto company, works in improvements from year 1949, and has made over 80 000 home improvements modifications. This makes them one of the only 2% of Canadian home improvements companies part of the GAF Masters Elite program, which ensures that their workforce is not only trained by the manufacturer but also has more than 10 years of work experience. Their installations come with an Energy Star certification, which means that your electricity and gas bills will be significantly lower in the summer and winter, and that's a sure way to increase your comfort.

Genetic alterations linked with bladder cancer risk, recurrence, progression, and patient survival

Genetic alterations linked with bladder cancer risk, recurrence, progression, and patient survival [ Back to EurekAlert! ] Public release date: 25-Mar-2013

A new analysis has found that genetic alterations in a particular cellular pathway are linked with bladder cancer risk, recurrence, disease progression, and patient survival. Published early online in CANCER, a peer- reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, the findings could help improve bladder cancer screening and treatment.

Alterations in the regulators of G-protein signaling (RGS) pathway, which is important for various cellular processes, have been implicated in several cancers. Eugene Lee, MD, of the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and his colleagues sought to determine the role of RGS alterations in bladder cancer risk, recurrence, disease progression, and patient survival. Dr. Lee is currently a fellow of Dr. Ashish M. Kamat. The researchers worked together with Dr. Xifeng Wu's Epidemiology Lab. They studied 803 patients with non-muscle invasive or muscle invasive bladder cancer and 803 healthy individuals.

After evaluating 95 single nucleotide alterations or variants in 17 RGS genes, the investigators identified several that were linked with overall risk of bladder cancer. The strongest association was seen with the rs10759 variant on the RGS4 gene: it was linked with a 0.77-fold reduced risk of overall bladder cancer. The researchers also found that with an increasing number of unfavorable variants, the risk of bladder cancer increased. "Screening for bladder cancer has proven to be difficult on a population level, and our work may be a first step in identifying molecular markers for potential genetic-based screening tests. This will help recognize specific groups at increased risk beyond the existing known risk factors such as smoking and chemical exposure," said Dr. Lee.

Dr. Lee and his team also revealed that in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, 11 variants were linked with recurrence and 13 variants were linked with progression. Ten were associated with earlier death in patients with muscle invasive bladder cancer; rs2344673 was the most significant, with an average survival of 13.3 months in patients with the variant compared with 81.9 months in patients without it.

In the current era of personalized medicine, an individual's genetic information can provide valuable information on screening, treatment, and surveillance. "Our study provides an initial step in how we can use a patient's genetic makeup to identify those at risk for bladder cancer. Furthermore, we can identify patients who already have a diagnosis of bladder cancer that are at increased risk of worsening of disease or dying from their cancer," said Dr. Lee. "The goal is to find as many genetic alterations that confer risk and create a panel of markers that would aid in diagnosis, treatment, and follow- up."
