In addition to news from the battlefront, the collection includes information on a wide range of subjects including science, literature, medicine, agriculture, women?s fashions, family life and religion.
The subjects included in the collection present researchers with a broad perspective on this era. The content reveals the increasing diversity and affluence of the American population coupled with all of the political difficulties and the rising tensions that lead to the Civil War. Researchers will also gain a deeper understanding of the changing life and culture of America?s people by exploring the diverse subject matter covered in the collection such as: psychiatry, gardening, freed African-Americans, temperance, the Irish Question, Freemasonry, the U.S. Postal Service and dentistry.
American Antiquarian Society (AAS) Historical Periodical Collection: Series 4 is available through the state-of-the art EBSCOhost? American Antiquarian Society Historical Periodicals Collection: Series 4 is fourth of the five series collection that includes digitized images of the pages of American magazines and journals never before available outside the walls of the American Antiquarian Society, the premier research library documenting the life of America?s people from the Colonial Era through the Civil War and Reconstruction. EBSCO partnered with the American Antiquarian Society in June 2008 to create the American Antiquarian Society Historical Periodicals Collection which will contain more than 7000 periodicals estimated at more than nine million pages of content when completed in 2012.
