LinkedIn Makeovers! Tips on Creating a Click-Worthy Headline (with ...

If you are a regular reader of my blog then you are familiar with my passion for writing, executive profile branding, and utilizing LinkedIn as a vehicle to get noticed! If this is your first time here, then welcome, and oh by the way: I LOVE LinkedIn!

My clients hire me to help them take a GIANT leap forward in presenting their skills AND personality online so they can land a new job or build up their business. Taking control of your LinkedIn profile is a huge first step in making social media play a larger role in your job search or business plan.? Not only are you taking control of your identity on the Internet, you are presenting yourself in a way that impresses and builds confidence in your abilities, products or services.

So where to start? I always start at the top: the HEADLINE. Next to your picture this is going to be what people read about you first. It is PRIME REAL ESTATE. It has to be POWERFUL and it has to summarize YOU professionally in 120 characters or less. Sound daunting? To me it sounds like a fun challenge! I love brainstorming unique and compelling core marketing messages for clients.

Here are a few tips on how to move your headline from default (side note: LinkedIn automatically populates your headline with your current job title unless you change it!) to stellar:?

1)?? What value or specialty do you bring to the table? Does it pass the, ?So What?? test? Tell me why I should stop and take a closer look at you?

2)?? Is it specific? With your target audience in mind, the more specific you can be, the better. Tell people what they can expect from working with you.

3)?? Incorporate key industry words. By making your headline keyword-rich, you are setting yourself up for search-engine-optimization-awesomeness ( yes, that is a frequent phrase we use in this office!)

4)?? Be creative. Have a little fun with it. Unique headlines that make you stop and say, ?now that is clever!?

5)?? Spice it up visually.? Sometimes incorporating symbols/ bullets can help break up content and help your headline stand out.?

?

Here are a few LinkedIn headline examples I developed for recent clients. Tell me which one you like best?

1)?? Chief Financial Officer ? Delivering Growth Strategies | Increasing Cash Flow | Improving Operations

2)?? Accomplished Molecular Diagnostics Consultant | ? Genetic Market Analysis ? Product Assessment ? Operational Excellence

3)?? Cutting Edge Organizational Development Practitioner || Significantly improving learning & development solutions

4)?? 12 Years of Banking Experience | ? Operations Management ? Staff Development ? Lending Best Practices?

5) Experienced Project Manager ? Mobile App Development ? Vanquisher of Chaos
