Have you ever noticed that when someone proposes to a girl at a bar or restaurant, they usually get free drinks or dessert? Now, this may be a little known secret of the food service industry, but the restaurant doesn't follow up to make sure that couple actually gets married. This leaves the window open for smart couples to get some free champagne or chocolate cake. Here's a few tips on how to pull off this simple short con.
Prep Your Girlfriend
First, you have to convince your girlfriend to not only go along with the idea but to also seem enthusiastic when you propose. You don't want to get caught by a suspicious waiter who sniffs out your scam. Explain to her that it isn't just about getting free booze or food. All the stuff you'll be saying is true, how much you love her, how she makes you the luckiest man in the world, etc. Reiterate that you will be saying these things while on one knee in public. Although the proposal itself is fake, it's going to feel exciting to go through the motions. Plus, it will just make you better at proposing for when you do it for real.
The Con
You should tell the waiter privately that you are going to propose and you want him to be involved.? Getting him involved is smart because this will give him time to talk with the bar or chef about getting something special for you (booze or food). Have him show up after the entree with a plate that has "Will You Marry Me" drizzled in chocolate. Then you say some nice things about your girlfriend, she says yes, you kiss and then FREE BOOZE OR DESSERT! Also, between the adrenaline rush of pulling off your first short con and the free drinks, getting laid should be pretty easy.
The Afterglow
After you've done this once, you're going to want to keep doing it. And you should! Just don't go to the same restaurant twice and stay away from places you actually frequent. The beauty of this scam is, why stop at restaurants? Don't have enough money to go to the movies? Propose at the theater! Get pulled over by the police for speeding? Propose in front of the cop!? Once you master this fake proposal, you'll never pay for anything again.
