Career advisors are reaching out to adults who want to move forward to a better future.

A new community-based free career guidance service is being launched one day a week at the Twerton Learning Centre to help over 19?s consider their options and make informed choices.

Staff from the National Careers Service will be available at the City of Bath College venue on High Street from 9.15am to 5pm every Thursday from January 31st.

The career advisors will be offering free, impartial and confidential advice to adults who want to find a job, set up their own business or have a change in direction.

This could include CV advice, filling in job application forms or simply understanding the local job market and training opportunities.

Donna Gillmore, a Career Advisor for the National Careers Service, said they wanted to meet the area?s need and help more people achieve their goals.

She said: ?People could be looking for a job or apprenticeship, wanting to apply to university, thinking about a career change or starting up their own business or just considering their future options.

?They may not know which direction to turn but we look at advantages and disadvantages together and aim to help people make informed choices. Our help and advice could help avoid costly mistakes.?

Career advisors are to ?take their work into the community? as an extension of the service they currently offer at the Student Advice Centre at the City of Bath College.

Confidential appointments and on-going assistance are offered to help people follow through their action plans and identify sources of funding.

Sarah Avraamides, who works as an Information and Enrolment Assistant at the City of Bath College, has recently set up her own Zumba business after seeking careers advice. She said the help she received allowed her to set ?realistic and achievable goals.?

She said: ?The careers advisor gave me the confidence and motivation I needed to make the first step to change my career and I am extremely grateful for this.

?It helped me to think about what I really wanted to focus on in my career in addition to utilising my previous qualifications in sport including my university degree.

?This encouraged me to take my initial Zumba training course. Once I had completed this I was certain it was something I wanted to pursue and make a career and business from.?

Others who have benefitted from the service have spoken of the ?quick analysis of needs,? ?good information on how to improve career prospects? and ?clear goal plans and realistic time frames.?

The launch of the new career advice service at Twerton Learning Centre will take place on January 24th with staff on hand from 9.30am to 1pm for people to find out more and book appointments.

The City of Bath College is also launching a Start Your Own Business course for people who want to find out more about setting up and running their own companies.

The ?Passion to Profit? modules are available on a ?pick and mix? basis, aiming at people who are at different stages of developing their business. People can study flexibly and online to develop an idea, launch a business and help it grow.
