I don?t watch Toddlers & Tiaras, I?ll admit.? But the few clips I?ve seen here and there have astounded me.
I try VERY hard not to judge other peoples parenting choices.? Seriously.? But sometimes I just can?t help myself.? Some of these reality shows just make it so easy. Take the T&T spin-off, Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo.? I felt so sorry for this little girl I was compelled to write about it on my own blog.? I?m not alone.? People all over the Interwebz have come out to talk about this little girl.
This week another T&T family is in the news.? Apparently, six year old Maddie?s dad (divorced from her mom) did not care for the Dolly Parton costume choice from last season and is now suing for full custody of his daughter*.? Her costume included fake boobs and a padded butt, which the mom said everyone found hilarious and added to the performance. (The online community was in an uproar after that episode aired.)
While I don?t agree with her costume choice, I?m not sure she should lose full custody of her daughter over it.? Plenty of married couples make questionable choices in their parenting and they aren?t in danger of losing their children.? Have you seen some of the t-shirts out there that people buy for their daughters?
But what do I know?? I?m sure most fathers would agree that they don?t want any one sexualizing their daughter at such a young (any?) age.
